Recreating Home

The Return Home

Nutmeg’s return gave the community a chance to understand that coming home is not simply returning to a building. Home is the feeling that you still belong.

Remembering the Original Nutty Nights

The community remembered the Original Nutty Nights, the small lounge beside what is now Meerkat Park, and all the memories that had been created there. Nutwood Commons Lodge had become the new home, but they wanted to carry the spirit of the old place forward.

Nutmeg’s Adirondack Chair

Nutmeg’s Adirondack chair became a symbol of that connection. He had always enjoyed sitting on the armrest, finding a comfortable place in the sun or shade while the activity of the community carried on around him.

Bringing Home Forward

The community moved and cleaned the old Adirondack chairs and brought them to the Lodge porch. It was more than moving furniture. They were bringing a piece of the old home into the new one.

Growing a Familiar Place

They also cultivated oak trees around Nutwood Commons Lodge. As the trees grew, they created shade and a familiar natural feeling, helping the Lodge feel connected to the places Nutmeg had loved.

What Home Means

The community began to understand a simple truth: “Home isn’t just where you live. Home is where you know you belong.” Nutmeg’s return gave everyone another opportunity to make the Lodge feel like home—not only for those who lived there, but for everyone who helped create the spirit of Nutwood.
