Volume One: The Chronicles of Nutwood

Chapter One: The First Nutty Nights

Long before Nutwood became the community it is today, there was The Original Nutty Nights—a small lounge beside what is now Meerkat Park.

It began as a gathering place for gay men sharing friendship and affection naturally. As friendships grew and people returned night after night, the gathering became something broader and more meaningful.

The lounge became a place for friendship, trust, respect, music, dancing, laughter, volunteering, and genuine connection. People came together not simply to socialize, but to find companionship and a sense of belonging.

That spirit became the seed from which Nutwood would eventually grow.

Chapter Two: The Nutwood Spirit

As the community evolved, its identity evolved with it. The focus moved beyond its beginnings and toward the things that brought people together: helping one another, sharing laughter, celebrating music, dancing together, volunteering, and creating memories.

The community discovered that its greatest strength wasn't the building, the events, or even the traditions. It was the people.

“Everyone deserves a place where they can be themselves, feel welcomed, and know they belong.”

Chapter Three: The Story Continues

From those early Nutty Nights, a larger Nutwood community emerged, eventually establishing Nutwood Commons Lodge and creating new traditions, celebrations, friendships, adventures, and stories.

The history of Nutwood is not finished. Every laugh, friendship, dance, act of kindness, and unforgettable moment can become another page in The Chronicles of Nutwood.

Important Nutwood Places

Nutwood Commons Lodge — the community lodge and gathering place, with bedding for 20 individuals intended for full-time community residence.

Macarena Park — formerly known as Willow Creek Park.

Meerkat Park — an important part of Nutwood's history and community stewardship.

Preservation Principle

Current records should remain clearly identified as current. Historical or superseded material should be preserved as archive material and labeled accordingly. The library exists to preserve Nutwood's story without confusing the past with the present.

A Note to the Nutwood Community

Welcome to the library. This is where the stories of Nutwood can be remembered, shared, and carried forward. The Chronicles are living history: the next chapter is written by the memories and moments the community creates together.
